Pioneering filmmaker Eckhart Schmidt started his career in Munich, Germany, in the triple role of producer-writer-director of features. He followed up with award winning opera films and romantic features filmed in Italy. Since the mid-90ties Eckhart has been dividing his time between Munich and Los Angeles where he was among the first to shoot in HD format. Filmed over the winter of 2009/2010 on Hollywood Blvd and Rodeo Drive and the Saharan Motor Inn, starring Jasna Novosel and Amber Waddick. In Eckhart's own words: "Extreme, Radical, Erotic". Too hot for TV, it will be released straight to the web.

Eckhart Schmidt's Work in Europe

Eckhart Schmidt started his career as writer-director-producer in the 1970s and 80s in Europe. He met success early with his feature films “The Fan”, “The Story”, “Loft” and “Alpha City”.

At the same time he excelled in directing opera films like Hans Werner Henze's “Der Prinz von Homburg” and Richard Wagner's “Ring des Nibelungen".

In the 1990s Eckhart shot films about romantic topics like “Undine”, “Der Sandmann”, and “Broken Hearts” in Italy.

Coming to Los Angeles, he was one of the first to shoot in HD Formats, resulting in the films “Internet Love”, “Girls – Mädchen – Ragazze”, “24/7 Sunset Boulevard” and “Sunset Motel”. Early in this millennium, Eckhart has concentrated on documentary features. His main topic is Hollywood, resulting in a series of docs like “The Myth of Hollywood”, “Glamour vs. Paparazzi”, “Hollywood Dreamers”, “Hollywood Gangster”, “Hollywood Legends”. Eckhart produced-directed 60-90 Minutes portraits of Jerry Lewis, Jane Russell, Fred Zinneman, Otto Preminger, Federico Fellini, Francesco Rosi, Claude Chabrol. He continues to work on classical music and opera topics with portraits of Christa Ludwig, Inge Borkh, Hildegard Behrens and Wolfgang Sawallisch. Eckhart was the first to film a comprehensive documentary feature about The Los Angeles Opera - "Recovered Voices". He followed with “Verbotene Musik” a look at the music of Jewish German composers from the 1930ties that died in concentration camps or survived by leaving Germany in time.
